What to expect from the blog

This blog is going to focus on some of the aspects not covered in the course…heavily on the Define portion of the DEAL. Surprisingly, this is one of the hardest aspects of this whole thing. The very idea that you have the freedom to focus on what you want in the next 3 to 6 months, versus the next 5, 10 or 20 years takes a huge shift in perspective. But once you define what you want and then make it happen quickly for the first time, it gets easier.

And once you get to the Liberation stage, and you see that income does not depend on effort…then you will see that the unknown (and unknowable) future is not nearly so scary.

Hosting

Liberate

Finally, once you’ve automated and eliminated everything you can, it’s time to liberate yourself. Hire a virtual assistant and teach them how to do the things you do. Give them the authority to do what needs to be done up to a point. Give them the tasks that you don’t like, and keep the things you do. OR…give them all of the tasks, and simply set your time aside to review operations and make suer things are going smoothly.

Remember, the whole idea is a 4-hour work week…designed to give you the time and money to create the life you want.

Automate

There will be things you can’t eliminate, of course. See if you can’t automate them so you don’t have to fool with them, or have to fool with them very infrequently. Batch similar processes so you can tackle them all at once while in a similar frame of mind. Find places that can handle manufacturing and fulfillment for you. Stop doing the things that you don’t want or need to do, so that you can focus only on the things that you enjoy.

Eliminate

Stress seems to be a built-in part of work…but it doesn’t have to be so. Look for the few things that cause the majority of your headaches and simply eliminate them…or at least as many of them as you can. Remember, you aren’t working to build the next Fortune 500 company…you just need enough to fund the life you want to lead, as defined above.

You don’t have to be a slave to every single customer, if they create more stress than they add to your ability to enjoy your life. Or vendors. Or processes. Or email, or phone calls, or…whatever.

Steamline almost to a fault.

Define

The important thing here is to realign your perspective around the things that are important to you. Most people get stuck in the need for security, and work their whole lives for someone else in an effort to save enough (hopefully) to be able to live the life they want after retirement.

This is just plain silly, especially today. It’s no surprise to anyone that Social Security is not going to be able to pay people back the money they are putting in right now. What’s more, gas prices, the decreasing dollar and inflation show you that what you hoped to live on 30, 20…even 10 years from now could very likely be entirely inadequate.

Instead, decide WHAT YOU WANT OUT OF LIFE NOW. Figure out what it will take to make it happen. Then do what is needed to make that happen, now. This isn’t just wishing for instant gratification. Instead, it is a conscious decision to create a way to fund the life you want to lead now, AND continue to provide for you in the event you are no longer able to do it yourself. A job that takes you 4 hours a week would be easy to teach to a spouse or a child, and maintain productivity almost indefinitely.

The nearly-automated income stream means future security, as well as a life of liberation now. But unless you know what you want out of life, you don’t have a solid place to start from.
